Our Siesta Key Guide Beach to the Best Beaches in the World
Siesta Key beaches draw in visitors from all around the globe for multiple reasons. The shallow waters that are crystal clear, boasting warm temperatures and calm currents is just one of the reasons visitors can’t get enough. But perhaps the most identifiable characteristic of these beaches is the pure white sand. Believed to be comprised of almost 99% quartz, the powdery white sand composition is actually broken-down quartz that originated in the Appalachian Mountains. The white color gives it a reflective property, so instead of absorbing the sun and heat, it reflects it. The cooler temperatures mean you can lay out without overheating, walk barefoot without burning the pads of your feet, and basically spend the day in pure comfort.
With two bridges to access Siesta Key from the mainland, it’s easy to go from city life to beach bummin’. Siesta Key is 8-miles in length, a majority of this being sandy beaches, so rest assured that there’s room for everyone to claim their spot in the sand. Now the only question left is: which Siesta Key beaches to visit?
Siesta Key Beach was ranked the #1 U.S. beach by TripAdvisor’s Traveler’s Choice Awards in 2020. Meticulously maintained with clean public bathrooms, outside showers, and changing cabanas, you can easily spend a whole day here in comfort. Pack a lunch or take advantage of the beach concessions, offering food, frozen treats, a tiki bar, and a gift shop (in case you run out of sunscreen, need a Siesta Key koozie, or want to rent an umbrella shade). There is a large parking area near the beach, or you can opt instead to ride the free trolley to get around the island. No matter how you decide to travel, Siesta Key Village is close by and ready to entertain you with hoppin’ restaurants and unique shopping. On Sunday evenings, make your way to Siesta Beach about an hour before sunset to join in the Siesta Key Drum Circle. Guests are invited to sing, dance, and even take a turn on the drums as you enjoy the warm breeze and breathtaking sunsets over the water.
About 2 miles south of Siesta Key Village you will find Crescent Beach. There is no public parking allocated for this beach, however you can park nearby and walk in. This is a favorite for many visitors because it has access to Point of Rocks. Guests love the changing dynamic of limestone wall outcroppings that surround tide pool flourishing with crabs, urchins, and the like when the tide is low.
