Preparing for the Big Day
There are decisions that will need to be made before the holiday begins, but if you get here some time before Thanksgiving (held on November 23 this year) you can actually take some time to relax and play before any thinking has to be done! The Sun Coast Renaissance Fair comes to the Sarasota Fairgrounds on weekends from November 18th to December 10th, allowing travelers to climb into a time machine (of sorts) and travel even further back to medieval times.
Giant turkey legs will serve as an appetizer to the big day, or if you go Thanksgiving weekend, maybe you will prefer to try out a sweet treat, dressed in your favorite cosplay costume; that weekend is their Fantasy Theme weekend! Of course, you have flown all this way and we are pretty sure you are eyeing the white sands you drove by on your way to your holiday haven and the temperatures are probably going to be in the mid-80s, so spending a day at the beach may be the perfect way to prepare for the holiday! Put on your new swimsuit, grab the beach gear that may be stocked in your sanctuary, and head out for a return to summer on the soft white sands!
The Big Day
When Thanksgiving does arrive, you will have many options as to how to handle the big meal! Many local restaurants provide a holiday feast, spoiling all who walk through their door, including Café Gabbiano, located right here on Siesta Key at 5104 Ocean Boulevard! Every year is different, but in past years their Thanksgiving menu has provided a traditional turkey feast or options for some of your favorite Italian dishes! This fine dining restaurant is one of our favorites no matter what the season or occasion, but at Thanksgiving they pull out all the stops!
If you are reluctant to leave your sanctuary on this beautiful day, a short (and quick!) drive to Brick’s Smoked Meat’s in downtown Sarasota at 1528 State Street will garner you a takeout meal to enjoy back at the dining table of your home sweet vacation home! Offering a choice between traditional turkey (and all the fixings!) and a prime brisket that has smoked for 14 hours, we can promise that no traveler will push away from the table still feeling the pangs of hunger!
And finally, if you are worried about the higher numbers that may appear on your scale, you can start the day out with a 5K Turkey Trot and Kid’s Dash held at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota! Offering finishing medals, race shirts, and sweet treats (hey, you WILL be burning those calories off shortly!) this fun run has been a local tradition for more than a few minutes and proceeds go to charity!
